NewGate School is an independent, non-profit, international, college-preparatory Montessori school for students from toddlers through high school.

We are passionate about cultivating your child’s love of learning. Each and every day, our students arrive at NewGate bursting to expand their horizons and unearth new discoveries. They are truly the inspiration for the thoughtful work we do creating a vibrant space to engage in authentic Montessori curriculum.

As the Lab School for The Montessori Foundation, NewGate has access to tremendous resources to implement learning methodologies developed and cultivated by some of the foremost international experts in the authentic Montessori way. The knowledge, respect and self-awareness your children and our future leaders harness here at NewGate will undoubtedly launch their imaginations, and their quest for happiness and success, in whatever challenges they choose to conquer.

Today’s students need to learn how to learn to be prepared for tomorrow’s world.

The future belongs to those who think outside of the box, solve problems, create new solutions, and get people to work together to get things accomplished.

Our course of study prepares students for both college and life. NewGate School’s meaningful work is to cultivate each student’s human potential by investing in our core values, being people of principle, deep thinkers, life-long learners, balanced beings, responsive friends and citizens, and courageous advocates.

Program Levels

Toddlers

Ages 12 months to 3 years

Toddler communities are designed to meet the developmental needs of the very young child and to support the child’s natural growth.

Toddler and Preschool Program Sarasota

Primary

Ages 3 to 6 years

Classes are taught by two certified Montessori Teachers. They tend to be rather stable communities, with just the oldest third moving onto the next level each year.

Lower Elementary

Ages 6 to 9 years

Elementary children have an immense appetite for knowledge; they begin to think abstractly and they have remarkable powers of imagination.

Upper Elementary

Ages 9 to 12 years

Each level is a multi-age community where students collaborate with others of different ages and abilities, learning to accomplish a goal cooperatively. This process encourages the child to contribute ideas, listen to others, and learn to compromise.

Our Secondary Program

Grades 7 to 12

The NewGate School has offered grades 7 – 12 since its first graduating class in 2004. In those years, virtually all of our graduates have gone on to complete college or university, and many have continued on for graduate or professional studies.

Montessori Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on integrated studies, rather than a traditional model compartmentalized into separate subjects, in which topics are considered only at specific grade levels.

Sensorial Education

These are exercises in perception, observation, fine discrimination, and classification that play a major role in helping our children to develop their sense of logic and concentration.

Practical Life Skills

One of our first goals is to develop in the very young child a strong and realistic sense of independence and self-reliance. Along with love and a stable environment, this is the child’s greatest need.

Language Arts

The process of learning to read and write almost always comes naturally and begins with a child’s first interest. We begin by placing our youngest students in classes in which the older students are already reading.

Mathematics & Geometry

Montessori’s famous hands-on learning math materials make abstract concepts clear and concrete. Students can literally see and explore what is going on in their math studies.

Geography

We are all members of the human family. Our goal is to develop a global perspective. The study of world cultures forms a cornerstone of our curriculum.

Science

Dr. Montessori passed a deep love for the world of nature on to thousands of students through a program of outdoor education, gardening, and camping experiences. We see this as the foundation of a lifelong interest in the sciences.

History

We are all members of the human family. Our roots lie in the distant past and history is the story of our common heritage. Without a strong sense of history, we cannot begin to know who we are as individuals today.

Secondary Program Course of Study

NewGate’s Upper School offers a Montessori Secondary program that consists of experiences both in the classroom and outside that support students in developing greater self-awareness and engagement with a complex world.
