Activities
Running Club
Taking full advantage of our 100-acre campus on Clark Road, students utilize our running course to train for upcoming events. Our coach is a certified USA track and field coach and registered nurse. We are also lucky to have Coach Dave (our PE coach) to assist with running club. Our athletes train for local and state events including the annual Disney Marathon where students and their families may participate. Students are also welcome to set their own personal goals during practice without having to participate in an event. Running club is a challenging and fun experience for everyone involved.
Chess Club
Playing chess has long been shown to correlate with improved academic performances in students through its emphasis on critical and strategic thinking skills, improved concentration and tenacity. New Gate School Chess Club was developed by another fantastic New Gate School parent. Beginning chess will help students learn the art of chess and the intermediate class helps to improve a student’s game. Students also learn aggressive opening moves and how to recognize traps and even go to tournaments. Coach David Henchey, the former US National High School Champion makes chess fun, challenging and interesting. The club is open to all ages and all levels of play from beginner to tournament.
Soccer
New Gate School offers an exciting soccer program for elementary students. Through the New Gate School soccer program students improve their skills and learn to cooperate and communicate with each other; they learn how to lead, take direction, listen and encourage one another. Our New Gate School parent soccer coaches are so dedicated to teaching soccer that they go out of their way to make sure each student wanting to practice will get the chance. Soccer is a ball of fun.
Brownie Scouts and Junior Scouts
New Gate School parents have developed and led Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts for the past eight years. The Brownie Scout group is offered for Lower Elementary students and the Junior Scout group is offered for Upper Elementary students. Each program follows standard Girl Scout guidelines consisting of badge work, council sponsored events, cookie sales and fieldtrips. Emphasis is on fun, fairness and friendship. Brownies meet Mondays from 3:30 to 5:00, Juniors meet Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00.
German
Guten Tag! In New Gate School's third year two of our Secondary students are taking over the German Club from our parent volunteers. Ben (12th grade, a native German) and Savannah (10th grade) have planned games and other activities for the children, all with the purpose of learning German. The club is great for students who have no knowledge at all of the German language, as well as those who do. For more information please click here. Vielen Dank!
Art Class
After school art is a creative time to learn something new or brush up on existing skills. All skill levels are welcome. Students work with acrylic paints on canvas to create an original work of art. For this class the emphasis is on preparing a background, how to handle paint and creating form and shadow. Students are also able to create a journal in our book binding class. Students will use age appropriate methods for creating a book: accordion folded books, concertina books, sewn books and greeting card books are a few of the techniques used. Art classes are offered in 6 week cycles and are held after school from 3:30 to 4:30.

Our personal commitment to Montessori education led us to do a thorough search of schools around the country. Like many other families, we chose to come to Sarasota because of New Gate's excellent reputation and its expanding program through high school. Our children are thriving; New Gate was a great choice. --E. Scott Osborne and Jeffrey Schwartz, Parents
